This is what we're going to do.

I will GIVE you my little ship the "Salvation"!

It is a good boat, needs work.

First you have to help us fix her up and then crew with us to New Zealand on a year long sailing voyage through the South Pacific.

This would represent a 2 (more or less) year commitment from the right person or people.

Once we get to The Bay of Islands, New Zealand and after say being there for 3 to six months the title of Captain and the documentation of the "Salvation" will be yours.

There will be stipulations to be sorted out and mutually agreed to.

But, basically you will have:
1) helped saved a Wooden Boat
2) Have learned about all the systems and on board procedures, navigation, sea-person-ship, boat handling from a seasoned waterman/craftsman
3) sailed the South Pacific seeing some of the most amazing places and peoples
4) then own a recently refitted and seaworthy cruising World Sailing Vessel.

Please Share this as an open offer...even as a open challenge!

This is not about money.

I recently turned a young man onto a boat that needed a good home and he started a NPO, created a web-site and a purpose...I didn't entirely agree with this...manipulation but, he was resourceful and enthusiastic.

This is a waterperson challenge, I want to hear a good story, a good mission statement and an Ocean skill set.

Again, please help me make this go...can I use the term "Viral" here???

Please share!

Many Thanks,

Jerrid

Hi Jerrid,

I'm not available for your trip, i already have my own boat, but i like the concept... hve you thought about posting this on couchsurfing.org? there are groups such as boat hitch hiking, couch on  boat, etc and i guess you would find people interested by your offer there.

also try 7knots.com, i had good response from that website

Hi Jerrid

I am available to crew.I see you're based in La Paz right now. I live in the US but getting there would be no problem. Message me for more info.

Heya Jerrid,

I am interested in your offer.  I have 5000 sea miles and would like to be involved in fixing a vessel up.  What type of boat do you have?  When were you planning on getting started?

Ta,

Morning

Well, she a 50' wooden ketch, Jim Swanson design. I've sailed her here from LA down and up to La Paz where I am hauled out for repairs and I am picking up work. And so, I am making a dollar but then, not getting enough done aboard good ol' "Salvo". Much of the point is time...it is a factor to the equation...I like the "fixing up the boat" part but, we have to sail! I want to be underway either...April-May '15 or if push comes to...well, shove then we'd shove off in Nov.-Dec '15 for the Marquesas.

I am very well equipped with tools for all the task...it just needs consistent daily achievement.

Regards, Jerrid

I want to hear Clarity...That is to say that i want to hear it; "I want the boat and I am willing to work for it." That is what I'd like to hear. Alternatively, If you want to help, in the yard or participate in sea-trials and shake-down training here in the Sea of Cortez, or enjoy and share in a leg of the journey...then that is okay but, state what you are on about...claro! Thanks, Jerrid

Are you a New Zealander??

Hi Jerrid...

You are one of a kind! Okay so you want clarity: I'm a novice. I sailed 3 months from Nuie to Australia and LOVED it. I also sailed with my parents as a baby, so you see...its in my blood! I am super adventurous and right now looking for the next challenge. You will teach me everything and in the end I OWN the boat?! That sounds too good to be true. Fixing up the boat is no problem for me unless you need someone with mechanical or electrical knowledge...And bonus for you: I'm a great cook ;)

What else would you like to know?

To tell you the truth...to be a captain is all of that. You will have to come up to speed, on the job training is fine but, you will become a mechanic, sparky and a cook as well as dunny fixer-upper underway while...not very nice, meteorologist...it's dynamic.

We are going to have to start making appointments to speak via skype with folks. I would be good to have a CV on applicants and a cover latter about what you would do and where you would go with the boat from New Zealand...Just something to think about. Keep in mind I have an environmental bent to this effort.

Many Thanks, Jerrid
