I started sailing when I worked on a motor boat renovation project and moved into a marina in Rockaway Beach NY a few years back. I got my own boat in October of 2012, right before hurricane Sandy hit us hard. I have completed a full engine rebuild on my Perkins 4108 but ran out of money before I was able to hook up a new transmission. My boat now needs a few more repairs before being seaworthy. Last winter, I worked on a friends sailboat in Key West, then found a boat belonging to an international coastal disaster relief organization and sailed with them to Haiti, bringing medical supplies, tools, and sails. I am currently living on my boat full time but plan to haul out this winter and live around the corner in a bungalow. I have also done a lot of local sailing in the NY region and skippered boats through the LI Sound. I have not had any official sail training but believe to be qualified to crew any boat or skipper a boat in most conditions.
If you have used Float Plan to find a boat or a crew member, or had a good experience using the website, being part of the community or you just love what we are trying to do (make sailing accessible to everyone), I would really appreciate a quick note that I could use as a testimonial on the new website. Thank you, Andrew
